Take Action: Send a response to the Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology consultation on surrogacy

The Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology (POST) have launched a consultation, closing on 5 October 2025, on surrogacy.

We are very concerned that the outcome of this consultation has been pre determined, with POST’s website claiming many stakeholders believe surrogacy law to be outdated, and talking about ‘access to surrogacy’. We want to ensure that the information POST receives is balanced, with women and children central in consideration of surrogacy and how it impacts us.

To send a template response from our website, click here. To send your own submission please click this link on the POST website and follow the directions to their form. Our co-campaigners, Stop Surrogacy Now UK, have published guidance for completing the consultation response on their website here. If making your own submission please do have a look at the guidance on Stop Surrogacy Now UK’s website.

Unfortunately the character limit for submitting evidence is short: just 1500 characters. We are asking supporters to highlight research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in September 2024 which shows that surrogate pregnancy is 3x higher risk for severe pregnancy complications including sepsis, pre eclampsia and postpartum haemorrhage, as well as further research published in July 2025 in Jama Open Network showing surrogate mothers are at higher risk for mental health problems post birth.

We would also ask supporters to highlight the report by the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, to be presented at the UN General Assembly on 10 October 2025, calling for a global ban on surrogacy in all forms.

We would be very grateful if you would submit evidence by the 5 October deadline; feel free to use our template if that saves you time. Thank you.

About

We are a group of women and men in the UK, who have come together to oppose liberalisation of the law on surrogacy and to raise awareness of the surrogacy industry; we also oppose egg harvesting for the purposes of egg donation, and payments for egg donors. We do not believe it is right to separate mothers and their children, nor do we believe the law should be relaxed to make surrogacy easier in Britain.

Our founder and volunteers hail from left wing backgrounds; we campaign against surrogacy from a feminist perspective, which fundamentally centres the right of children to remain with their mothers, and against the commodification of women’s bodies and the commercialization of pregnancy. All are welcome to join us in our fight.
