On 3 September 2026 our founder was quoted in The Times, in print and online, as they revealed the majority of single men who pursue surrogacy are doing so abroad and are over 40, with single men in their 60s and 70s also applying for parental orders for surrogate-born babies.
New research from Surrogacy Concern found that parental order applications from male couples have jumped by 191% since 2015, while mixed sex couples numbers have increased by 36.4% over the same timeframe. We oppose surrogacy for all and want to see a global ban on the practice, which is cruel to babies who bond with their mothers in utero (regardless of egg used in the pregnancy), and which subjects women to increased risk in pregnancy and birth, as well as financial exploitation.
The majority of surrogacy cases in the UK are now for babies born to surrogate mothers abroad, usually in developing countries or to low-income women in the US. Commercial surrogacy was banned in the UK in 1985, but commissioning parents get around the ban by going abroad, and the Government currently makes no attempt to stop them doing so.
