Today our campaign has been featured in the print edition of The Times as they reveal the number of women aged 18-25 donating their eggs in the UK has more than doubled in two decades, with 829 women aged just 18-20 registering as egg donors between 2000 and 2022.
We are extremely concerned that women as young as 18 are being preyed on for their eggs by fertility clinics and IVF concierge services, in adverts which do not have to state health risks. In October 2024 the amount of money paid to women after each donation round increased to £985 per cycle, further increasing the risk of financial exploitation in young women who we fear may be incentivised to do this from a point of financial need.
We believe the minimum age of egg donors must rise to 25 and that payments and adverts targeting women for their eggs should be banned.
